The Bowen Technique is a soft tissue remedial therapy that involves the therapist using fingers or thumbs to move over muscles, nerves, ligaments, tendons and fascia in various parts of the body. This therapy can be effective to help relieve everyday stresses and revitalise the whole person.

Each Bowen Technique session varies according to the particular problems of the client.

By focusing on the back, legs, shoulders and the neck, a sense of wellbeing can be achieved, helping relaxation, aiding sleep, helping to remove everyday stress and anxiety that can make us feel under-par or prevent us functioning at our optimum.

Bowen Therapy or Technique is a very gentle form of bodywork developed by Tom Bowen in the 1950s in Australia.
Bowen Therapy is used for relaxation and remedial purposes and is a beneficial, gentle and effective modality.
Small, gentle precise moves are made on muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves triggering the body to begin a healing process.
These rolling moves impact the whole body, stimulating a healing and adjustment process.
Bowen Therapy restores balance in the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The moves prompt the shift from the stressed, sympathetic “fight/flight/freeze” mode to parasympathetic “rest/relax/repair” dominance.
Healing can only occur when the ANS is in parasympathetic dominance, creating a profound release from stress. Clients report a state of deep relaxation during treatment, indeed some fall asleep. Clients report a renewed sense of viatality and wellbeoing after treatment
A Bowen treatment aims to help the body holistically – balancing the the body whilst addressing the area of injury, pain or discomfort. Posture and compensatory patterns are assessed to resolve issues.
The Bowen moves restore the body’s balance from fight/flight/freeze mode to rest/relax/repair mode thus reducing the body’s pain response. Muscles and fascia adjust as the body returns to it’s natural blue-print, allowing improved posture.
Bowen therapy is safe and suitable for all ages – from babies to the elderly – including helping to improve acute injuries, chronic presentations and is also used to enhance sporting performance.
